Winter and Shoes, but not Winter Shoes

What's up with winter hanging about ALL January? For those of y'all up north, that might be a strange question. However, this is Houston. For as long as I have lived here (25 years), we haven't had winter last for more than a week at a time. I have a grand total of two proper sweaters, not including my thin twinsets. And both of them were given to me by my mother. Sweaters aren't usually practical in Houston, unless you're the type that is given to feeling chilled in an office, which I'm not. In fact, I run a fan at work everyday.

Really though, I'm not complaining. I'd rather have this cold spell than the oppressive heat of a Houston summer. I pray for rain then.

In other news, I'm keeping up with walking at work. I do about a mile nearly everyday. I have finally succumbed to buying some walking shoes. I walked in my work shoes because I detest sneakers. I'm short and fat with thick legs. The average sneakers makes me look and feel like a hobbit. I'm a sandals kind of gal. I want to be able to slip on a pair of shoes and go. Sneakers usually require socks and the tying of laces.

For the last few months, I've been noticing women wearing hybrid sneaker/mary jane shoes. I tried some on at the shoe store and I was sold. And now the following are my walking shoes:

The shoes have been more comfortable to wear while walking. When I walked on the treadmill at home after the stroke, I went barefoot. When I returned to work and really noticed the sneaker/mary janes, I decided I wanted some walking shoes and thought they might fit the bill.

I also bought a pair to keep at home. These babies don't get the same usage, but they're cute.

If you asked me 6 months ago, I wouldn't have guessed that I'd take up walking and STICK with it. Much less shop for it. I took about 3 weeks off around Xmas, but I'm back at it. I have to credit my new/current workplace. The place was made for walking.
