I have seen some very nice pattern backgrounds on some journals lately. Pretty, pretty stuff that doesn't look like it was created in 1998. I wanna know where they came from 'cause when I search for backgrounds, I don't find nice stuff like that. Maybe they make them. If so, I bow to their artistic superiority. I suppose I could sit down and build a nice patterned tile, but I'm lazy and not particularly interested in the task.
Speaking of designs, have you ever gone to a community or journal and seen it rendered in YOUR OWN journal design? That's happened to me a few times and it always startles me. I figure it's got to be a glitch. I didn't customize my flexible squares layout all that much, but what other weirdo has a Dark Tower theme with fluffy clouds with a Lilo & Stitch moodtheme? It's a bit schizo, really.
My design choices are usually centered around one aspect that I desperately want to include. For instance, my color theme ("Morning Dawn") isn't a natural choice for me. I'm more of a fan of cool colors--blues, purples, etc. However, it goes wonderfully with the background. The Gunslinger from the Dark Tower? I was thinking that would be a fun theme, but dammit, I still wanted my pretty clouds! I figured the Gunslinger at the Dark Tower was the money shot, if not completely congruent with the rest of the page. And so, a schizo layout.
I like to look at what other people have done, so I'm constantly checking out the other people's LJ's. Particularly if I don't know them, 'cause I'm always ready to look at new ideas. 'Cause eventually I *will* redesign mine.
